“Daily nonstop service to Toronto is great for San Antonio,” San Antonio Mayor Ivy R. Taylor said. “Canada is among the city’s top international business and leisure markets, and this new service will provide new opportunities for connections to Air Canada’s vast network of destinations in Canada and beyond. With the tricentennial celebration in 2018, the timing is great for our city.”

City officials said Toronto was identified as a key target, aligning with San Antonio's top economic priorities, as part of the airport's 2016 Strategic Air Service Development Plan.

“Canada has long been an important market for the city’s economic development efforts,” San Antonio City Manager Sheryl Sculley said. “Toronto is a global business center, which is especially significant for our aerospace, bioscience, technology and new energy sectors.”

"The airport has stepped up its approach to air service development, and today's announcement of a new international nonstop reinforces San Antonio's ability to attract routes that will benefit our business community," Councilman Joe Krier said.

The airport joined forces with Visit San Antonio and a network of resources in eastern Canada to attract the new nonstop service.

“I commend the city of San Antonio and San Antonio International Airport for their great work and continued commitment to improving our air connectivity options,” San Antonio Economic Development Foundation chairman Wayne Peacock said. “The nonstop flight to Toronto represents economic and business development opportunities, increasing our connectivity with an international market that is experiencing similar growth in the sectors of bioscience and new energy.”

The service to Toronto will be added to San Antonio's current 38 nonstop destinations.
